Weight Management

We will shortly be starting our private weight management clinic from our pharmacy premises.

Our trained pharmacist will assist you with advice, guidance support when it comes to setting your goals and achieving them.  An initial consultation taking up to 30 minutes will involve discussions on diet, exercise and not just the medications we can provide.  But if you are eligible to receive medication to assist your weight loss journey, we will discuss the effects you are likely to experience alongside how to use the medication safely even administering the first dose for you if that helps.  We will also contact you at intervals throughout your treatment to see how you are progressing.

The main medication we use is Tirzepatide (Mounjaro) but we are also licensed to use Semaglutide (Wegovy) and the oral tablet Mysimba if these are best suited to the patient.

Mounjaro

Mounjaro is an injectable weight-loss medication which contains the active ingredient tirzepatide. Tirzepatide works by activating two receptors (GLP-1 and GIP) to increase the level of hormones in the body, helping you to feel fuller for longer after a meal.

Mounjaro should be taken just once a week alongside a healthy diet and exercise. It has been proven to help people lose around 22.5% of their initial body weight by week 72 of treatment, at a maximum dose of 15 mg.

To be eligible for Mounjaro for weight loss, you must have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 kg/m2 or more (obese), or of at least 27 kg/m2 (overweight) and have one of the following risk factors or a health condition that is affected by weight.

• hypertension
• dyslipidaemia (high cholesterol)
• obstructive sleep apnoea
• cardiovascular disease
• Pre-diabetes or diet controlled type 2 diabetes mellitus
• a supervised diet, behaviour modification and increasing physical activity failed to achieve a realistic reduction in weight

Wegovy

Wegovy is an injectable weight-loss medication for overweight adults or adults with obesity. It contains the active ingredient semaglutide, which mimics a naturally occurring hormone called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). This hormone helps to regulate your blood sugar levels, and also sends signals to receptors in your brain that manage your appetite, allowing you to feel fuller for longer.

Wegovy is prescribed to be taken just once a week alongside a diet and exercise plan to help you lose weight. Taken as prescribed, it can help you lose up to 15% of your starting weight.

Mysimba

Mysimba is a weight loss medication that reduces your appetite, so you’ll feel full after eating less food. This reduces the urge to eat, which can help you lose weight. You take Mysimba every day, and you should start to notice the effects of Mysimba within a few weeks of taking it. To get the most out of Mysimba, we recommend taking it alongside a healthy diet and regular exercise.
